Our Children's Church is on Sundays between 10 and 11 am, coinciding with the Parish Eucharist in church. It is an entertaining and friendly way for children of all ages to find out more about Christianity – and have fun! Many parents like to drop their children off in the Isis rooms and then attend the church service – but if you prefer, you can stay with your child and join in the activities! We start with a welcome session for all the children, including a good news session, prayers and hymns. Then we all do a group activity – sometimes this is creative, with lots of drawing, cutting and sticking; or sometimes we do a bit of role play – or some more singing! At about 10.45 am we all go into the church to join our families in Communion, where the children can receive a blessing. We stay in church until the service ends at 11 am, and often the children come out to the front to show everyone what they have been doing, or perform a short play!
We have children from 3 –11, it’s great fun and everyone is most welcome! Parents with younger children can stay with their little ones and join in. There is no Children’s Church when there is a family service, or during the school holidays.
Our Youth Group is for children at secondary school. They meet on the last Sunday of every month in the Vicarage, between 4.30 and 6pm. The Youth Group comprises a mixture of activities such as sport, baking, table tennis, snooker and some discussion of philosophical or religious ideas where doubts are welcomed and questions encouraged! We want to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for young people to explore what they really believe and what they think about God and the church. If you'd like to find out more then please contact Bea Vickers on 07766 491716 or email@example.com
We don't have a Children's Choir that meets regularly, but we often put together a large choir of children for many of our concerts - and there is always a children's choir performing at our Christmas concert! Over the years we have sung an enormous variety of music including songs from popular musicals such as Oliver, The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins; to tunes from The Beatles and ABBA plus of course lots of hymns and carols as well! For Christmas 2013 we sang some music from Handel's Messiah, which had been especially arranged for children to sing by Michael Reed.
Many of the children involved are regulars at our church but we welcome friends and any other local children who like to sing! All children from age 4 and upwards are most welcome to join our choir! If you have a child you you think would like to sing in the choir at our next concert; then please contact Catherine Jessop on Jessops@strandonthegreen.freeserve.co.uk.
